TVDW 17/03/2024 - Brownie McGhee & Sonny Terry - Wailin' and Whoopin' (1969)

TVDW 1001. De 'All American Music'-setlist die ik zondag op de draaitafels gooide in Bar Bruur, dat betekende dat ik me een viertal uren mocht uitleven. Zoals wel vaker, zat het plezier voor mij minder in het middenstuk, waar de sure shots zaten om het publiek te pleasen, maar meer voor- en achteraan, waar ik kon freewheelen en wat leuke maar minder voor de hand liggende tracks kon 'pluggen'. Niet dat het allemaal veel voorstelt, ik weet het wel, maar er zijn toch minder plezierige bezigheden.

Ik begon en sloot de set met Born in The USA en had vooraan ook een deuntje uit Hawai - geboorteplaats van Obama; verder waren er een paar obligate stops (New York, Miami, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Memphis) en kwamen streepjes jazz, hiphop, disco, calypso, rockabilly en blues voorbij. De tvdw hoort bij die laatste categorie.
