TVDW 20/09/2026 - Michael McDonald - Sweet Freedom (album version) (1986)

 

TVDW 1132. Ik weet niet of ik het nog ooit ga meemaken, een weekend waarin ik in totaal 11 uur achter de draaitafel mag staan. Vrijdag vijf uur in Antwerpen bij Bar Tabac, en zaterdag zes uur bij Bar Bruur, voor de gelegenheid verkast naar het dorpshart in Puurs voor het Pukema-festival. Goed voor erg leuke herinneringen  plus wat extra inzichtingen en bedenkingen over welke songs en overgangen wel of niet werken. 

Toegegeven, in de set voor Bar Tabac stak ik heel wat meer voorbereidend werk, die voor Bar Bruur was meer on the spot een hutsepot maken van hits, genres en af en toe een persoonlijk favorietje. Een tvdw kiezen tussen de bijna 170 songs is moeilijk, maar ik ga voor een artiest die in beide lijstjes opdook en die solo nog geen tvdw scoorde. "Sweet Freedom" is een dankbaar nummer om nog eens boven te halen. Het heeft die heerlijke Rod Temperton vibe, het was destijds een érg grote hit, maar is tegenwoordig toch wat minder te horen dan bijvoorbeeld Lionel Richie's All Night Long - een song die er trouwens goed bij past.
